Prescription Policy

*

TSC physicians will prescribe pain medication for a limited time as a part of surgical care. If ongoing pain management is necessary, patients will be referred to their primary physician or a pain management physician.

The following policy is in place while patients receive medication from TSC. TSC physicians must be notified of all current medication use and if any other physicians currently prescribe medication.

Call the physician's assistant if you feel dizzy, nauseated or itchy after taking medication.

If you feel the medications are not adequate for relief of your pain, discuss this with the physician or nurse clinician; do not increase the prescribed amount of medication without a physician's permission.

Medications are refilled Monday through Friday during business hours (9:00am - 5:00pm).
MEDICATIONS ARE NOT REFILLED ON EVENINGS OR WEEKENDS.

Please allow 48 hours for refill requests to be processed.

It is preferable for a patient to contact their pharmacy and have them leave a message by calling (011-886-4) 2320-8712 . Patients may also leave messages. The following information is necessary when messages are left.

  • Patient name
  • Patient phone number
  • TSC physician
  • Type of medication
  • Amount of medication
  • Last time the medication was refilled
  • Name and phone number of the pharmacy where medication is to be filled
ALL this information is important in order to process refill requests.

Remember the following when taking pain medication:

  1. Many pain medications contain Tylenol (acetaminophen). Pharmacists recommend that acetaminophen intake should be limited to no more than 4,000mg (4grams) in 24 hours. Liver damage can occur when these amounts are exceeded.
  2. Never mix any prescription medication with alcohol.
  3. Do not drive motorized vehicles while taking prescription medication as they may cause drowsiness.
  4. Pain medication can be very constipating. To avoid this, eat a well balanced diet including fresh fruits, raw vegetables and other fiber rich foods. Drink 6-8 large glasses of water per day
